I'm borrowing a Z5E for a shoot and I would like to know whether I can use it with a standard definition monitor. Of course I wouldn't expect to see HD pictures, but I just need to know if it is possible to shoot in hi def and monitor in standard def.

Sure, just use AV or component out. Make sure you set component out to 576i (page 84).
