Can anyone suggest a program to split or trim AVCHD that does not involve file conversion or rendering after splitting?

Jay West August 3rd, 2010, 11:17 PM AVCHD from what camera? Peter Solmssen August 4th, 2010, 01:19 AM I am using Panasonic Lumix DMC-zs7 and similar cameras -- all Panasonic. Ron Evans August 4th, 2010, 01:10 PM IF its like the Sony its easier to do it in the camera. Ron Evans Tom Gull August 4th, 2010, 06:59 PM Sony's PIcture Motion Browser also allows trim from either end which must be using smart rendering. It takes a short while to set up and do the first few %, then it just zips right along to the end of your desired new clip. And of course, a split can be achieved indirectly by trimming twice to produce two different clips (the first half and then the second half). But that won't help much if you don't have a Sony cam that will get you the software... Any editor that does "smart rendering" should pretty much leave the bulk of a clip alone for simple trims or splits via two trims. Justin Beech August 5th, 2010, 04:03 PM On a mac, can't you use ClipWrap, then SimpleMovieX ? neither re-encode. Phillip Slosberg August 5th, 2010, 09:42 PM I just downloaded "Smart Cutter" from Frame Accurate H.264 AVCHD Editor Without Re-Encoding (http://www.fame-ring.com/) and it seems to work well. The trial version has a watermark on a few of the first and last frames but you can see if it is what you need before you buy. Would be interesting to see any user feedback about the three mentioned stand-alone AVCHD splitting/trimming utilities.
