I'm a Canon guy mostly so I don't know how it is with Sony.

Does Sony ever do sales like Canon does? Canon sometimes offers lens rebates or cameras at a special price for a limited time.

We need to get 3-4 EX1Rs, but just wondering if I should just bite the bullet and get them or hang time for a sale like I would with Canon. We need them in the next 4 months.

The EX cameras are still pretty hot. I'd be surprised to see them go on sale anytime soon.
In fact, I'm not sure I've ever noticed any Sony pro cams have a "sale event".

I'm not entirely sure what everyone considers a sale. However, I know this for a FACT! Sony has had
rebates on the EX cameras! Up to $400 rebate if you watched some webinar about Sony HD production
or something like that. Of course, it wasn't a sale, and you had to pay full price up front and go through
the 'rebate hassle' but still......in the end you were getting $400 off the EX cam! Would not surprise
me a bit to see another rebate on the EX cams at some point, especially with all the new DSLR
craze and the new 'big chip' cameras coming from Sony and Panasonic. Of course it wouldn't
surprise me if they DIDN'T have another rebate either. I guess, it depends on how bad you need
the cameras. Murphy's Law states that they will issue another rebate the day after you purchase
your cameras.......

Everything I buy goes on sale the month after I pay full price for it.

With that said, when I bought my EX1 in 2008 Sony tossed in a free extra 8GB SxS card (so I got 2 cards with my camera).

Hey C.S......would you let the rest of us know when you're getting ready to buy an EX-1r so the rest of us will know when to place our orders? ;-)

In the next 3 to 4 months currency fluctuations are probably going to affect the standard pricing more than sales. Sony in some regions will bring on sales in the fall after the big sales push in the summer when there is a lot of production work going down. But really probably no one knows which way prices are going.

You can always wait but there is a good sense in buying sooner so operators can become familiar with the cameras.
