... just a quick little question on how many batteries and CF cards are you using for a entire wedding day shoot? Thanks

I have 7 16gb cards but only use 4 of them for most weddings. If it's an Indian wedding I will use 5 cards.

3 Batteries is plenty. I always have one on the charger at my weddings and never have to stress about it.

I would recommend getting one 32gb card so that you don't have to switch for longer ceremonies. Catholic ceremonies always have me changing the card. Not that big a deal for me thou. I swap them when they are praying for the third time!

Buy Sandisk 30mbs or higher. No problems yet.

1 x 5dmark2
1 x 7d
8 x batteries
9 x 16gb
3 x 32gb

Our weddings almost always run for 12-16 hours and we record ceremony in full with the 5d. We usually dont finish the whole cards but on rare cases where we shoot for 17 hours, we might.

Plan on buying 1 or 2 more for the rebel. Rather be safe than sorry.

Canon 5D
4x32GB cards
6 batteries (I've never used more than 4 in a day's shooting)

Normally I change out the card and battery at the same time - usually when the battery is about to run out, the card is just about full too.

7D and 5D
8x 8gb
10x16gb
6 batteries. Always charge used during the reception.

I dont finish each card to full before I replace a new one. I put a new card for new happenings/event of the day. Or if I fell like it.
I know, that on average 4 x16gb might do it.
so that if you lose 1 card, you don't loose all.

Hope that helps.

2 7D's
5 batteries
6 32GB Sandisk CF cards

We average 10 hours of coverage per wedding and so far this setup has worked fine. You just have to be proactive in regards to charging batteries during the day, and also have a plan for CF card usage.

Not meaning to hi-jack the thread, but to those of you who shoot a lot in memory cards, I would like to know what kind of storage solution you guys are using. I bought a drobo system beginning of this year and its approaching its capacity ( I have 4 x 1.5TB in them), and I'm only half way through my season.

It would be nice to hear what others are using. Thanks.

6-32gb cards.

also watch out for 64gb cards. They don't work or just show up as 16gb or 32gb

I should of asked as well as Brands of Cards as well. Someone here on DVinfo recommended Transcend Cards. They are cheaper, and I have heard they work great. Any thoughts?

I would highly recommend the Sandisk brand. They are very well reviewed everywhere you look. That's why we went with them. You could go with cheaper cards and have them work just fine too, but given that it's the final resting place for your footage when you shoot .. that's the one area I would invest heavily in.

2 7Ds
4 x 32GBs (reception)
4 x 16GBs (ceremony)
5 x 8GBs (prep)

6 batteries

The goal is to never have to worry about dumping cards or charging batteries. This takes my team throughout the day with maybe one set of charging a pair of batteries if the day is really long. I usually rent another 7D/5D or an associate may own one that we use.

I also use nothing but sandisk. I'm sure the cheaper cards may work fine, but like Travis said, I will spend the extra money on "peace of mind" for cards I know have a great track record. A sister studio used kingston in the past, after a card buffered once, they swapped to sandisk and never looked back.

Now only if I would have remembered to do the stupid rebates.....ugh.

Anyone ever have any trouble with SanDisk Ultras? I got a write error last weekend, and lost some footage. Definitely wasn't pleased. I had originally bought them from Ebay -- I really hope they weren't counterfeit SanDisks.

Never had an issue with any of the extreme IIIs, IVs, or new extremes. The new ultras are the same speed as the extreme IIIs (30MB/S) but I couldn't say if they are built the same. I only buy my cards from adorama, b&h, or reputable sellers from message boards. No issues up to this point.

I am still at the stage of dumping footages from my CF to MBP so I can re-use it again.. :( Hope to get enough budget to buy more before our next wedding job

But lately I've had issue with my Sandisk Extreme III.. my 7D is saying "cannot read the CF card".. something like that.. I had to turn off-on the camera several times before it starts working again.. This gets me really nervous.. It's an eBay bought so I'm concerned its a counterfeit although it comes with all the Sandisk certificates of purchase etc...

I'm thinking of buying the Kingston 266x Ultimate.. seems like a good value.. any comments on this?

I've had the Kingston 133x and they are working well although it does buffer sometimes.. I only use it for prep, location shoot and reception where I have less of the timing pressure
