I've taken a job with Polar Bears International working on their media acquisition and distribution strategy. I'm looking for advice for the best way to get our footage out to the local and national media outlets. We are giving away footage and access. I've heard that a lot of local news stations will take pre-packaged stories. Is there a central clearinghouse or distribution site to facilitate this? Any advice would be much appreciated.

The media will be shot on everything from Canon 7d to a RED but will be outed as Pro-Res (or something more specific if requested).

Thanks

My experience has been that broadcasters will accept footage and talking heads for use in a V/O-Clip but NOT as a packaged full.

As a freelancer, I have delivered news conference footage with interviews and B-roll footage for use by the broadcaster.

Thanks Shaun. Do you know of any central clearing house for news affiliates?

Newsreaders and reporters also jump at the opportunity to be up close with cuddly animals (http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/queensland/dreamworld-tiger-mohan-gets-root-canal-surgery/story-e6freoof-1225880097021) such as baby tigers. Great visuals to be had, as well we being out of the ordinary. Might be handy if you have a spare (and tame) polar bear.

I don't. The handful of times I've done stuff like this, it's been for the group that wanted the exposure but either couldn't have news folks running all over (a children's' hospital) or when travel made it difficult to ensure media would be present (a remote northern mill).
