View Full Version : Who is going to IBC?

Howdy from Texas,

http://www.ibc.org/

IBC in Amsterdam from 9-13 Sep. is one of the industry's largest events. How many of our members are planning to be there? I'd like to go and have found affordable airfare for SAT-AMS, but I'm not sure of the time commitment. Just wondering if any of our European friends would be willing to report their experiences during IBC. In the past, most of the new toys hinted at during NAB usually show up in working condition at this show. Thanks in advance,

I'm planning on going.

Went last year, and it was a blast!

Not sure on my travel dates yet.
I have yet to find a place to stay.. Anyone interested in sharing a room and splitting the cost?

Chris, if my day job allows for time off then -- currently it doesn't, but as you know well, that can change by the hour -- I just might use IBC as an excuse to get back over to Europe.

The company I work for will be exhibiting there, but i'm not too sure at the moment if i'll be going.

I went last year for 2 days, and it was great.

Cheers,

Just revisiting this subject to see who else is planning to go to IBC.

Will be there on my way to Africa for a shoot. Thought I would fly KLM and just do a stopover for a day. I'm not holding my breath, but it would be really sweet if Panasonic had a surprise for us and announced early delivery of the HVX. hmm.

Hi,

I will be there and I believe the HX200 will be as well. Hope to see any of you that are there in the Panasonic Booth.

Best,

Jan

Jan, when you say the 200 will be there... I'm assuming you mean just on display? I did not miss a delivery/sales announcement, did I?

Hi Cemil,

I don't think Jan is at liberty to say, but look at it this way... don't you think it's fairly important that she's going all the way over to be there?

And for Jan...

Glad you get to go! Sure wish I could,

Thanks Chris. And seeing as Jan is on this thread, I would just like to thank you for a great DVX100. We shot a documentary shown in 44 countries and could not have been happier. We now want to buy three HVX200 for a documentary for the Clinton Foundation and a series for the World YWCA but we're shooting in September and October. I am, frankly, quite sad at this point. I do not want to go for HDV, even as a stop gap. Here's hoping...

Hey Chris,

Do you know yet whether or not you can break free to go to IBC?

Was thinking about joining you for the road trip, but my September work schedule is starting to harden like concrete. I'll have to decide very soon whether it is "fun at IBC" ... or stay at home straining my brain on Dylan's DV Challenge #3!

Chris Hurd
August 15th, 2005, 03:57 PM
Pete, unfortunately my schedule won't permit the trip this year, as I've got another commitment away from home at that exact same time frame. It would be great if you and your better half could go, as I'm looking for some folks who could represent a solid DV Info delegation and offer some reporting from the scene.

Perhaps we have some Eurpoean members who will be there? If so, tell me who you are!

Chris, sorry to let you down but with the kiddo in school, my wife and I can't both go. I think she'd let me go if you chaperoned me so I didn't get into ANY trouble. So since you can't go, I'll have to pass.

Naw, she'd let me go (really!) but I'm not willing to rework my schedule to make a solo trip. I've been on the road for business too much lately and would only travel if it was a rockin' fun road trip with buddies.

Looks like I'll have to pony up and either enter or judge DV Challenge #3 that week. Any Europeans available to get DVinfo some reports on IBC?

<< I think she'd let me go if you chaperoned me so I didn't get into ANY trouble. >>

Heh, fat chance. The two of us would be like foxes in a hen house. Not good.

Okay, so it's up to our European contingent -- please let me know who's going!

Chris, I should be able to get some good info for you. I'm not going, but I know someone that is.

Hi, Chris,

I'm trying to get my boss to send me there for the weekend. The HVX200 looks like a logical next step for our facility...would love to see the output of one, even a prototype. Give me your questions and I'll try to ask them (assuming I get to go).

Chris, my travel request was rejected...so, I gotta come up with $200 euro if I want go on my own. Normally, not a problem, but I'm taking the family to Costa del Sol the following week. My wife isn't thrilled with me spending the weekend in Amsterdam without adult supervision, anyway. Wish Panasonic would make a stop in Germany...

I'll see what dirst I can dig up...

Actually.. how about people post requests here if they have anything paticular they'd like checked out and i'll ad them to my list..

Chris, I'll have my D2X with me. I can probably do some uploading. Otherwise, I can just email you a zip from the airport Saturday evening. I'm flying in Saturday morning and flying out in the evening (on my way to New York to film the UN GA and then off to Africa on a film). Let me know.

Hey all,
I will be going with my boss/employer and really looking forward to it!
I've been to NAB for the last 10 or so years, but this is my first trip to IBC...however not my first visit to Amsterdam :-) (I hear "AK-47" is the good stuff for those attending any cafe's) lol!
(FYI I work for Lorne Lapham Sales and Rentals www.llsr.com and frequent these boards to further my knowledge as much as possible)
Hope we'll all see a working version of the HVX...if anyone has any suggestions of cool products (for the dv film maker) to check out please let me know.
Last, does anyone know of any after-show events going on?
All the best,

Brian Broz

I'm also seriously considering catching the tram and getting down there. I'm in vacation now, so time is not the problem.

Rob Lohman
September 4th, 2005, 05:54 AM
I'm also going to attend. I have three days planned (saturday, sunday &
monday), but I might be at a local rollercoaster park (fomerly Six Flags Holland)
one day if the weather is good.

My pass says:

Rob Lohman
dvinfo.net
Netherlands

So if you spot that stop me and introduce yourself! :)

I will bring my new Canon digital SLR with me so I can hopefully shoot some
nice pictures of new equipment (if it isn't too crowded). Since I will go on
vacation that friday I'm not sure if I have time to write something up, but I'll
see what happens.

This year I won't be attending. The comapany I work for is shipping everybody else to it, apart from me :( I have to stay behind.

I just can't afford to pay for myself either.

Maybe next year.

Mikko, I have a couple of questions that I really want to know the answer to. Mainly on the HVX, by the way :)

1- If you could be so kind as to ask the Panasonic guys about the Mac laptop compatibility problem with P2, and pressure them for a possible release date

2- The firestore HVX solution, will it be available at launch?

3- About the Pal HVX vs the NTSC one. Are all new HD sets sold worldwide compatible with either 1080/50 I or 1080 60i, or is there the same incompatibility with Pal and Ntsc? (this could be a decisive answer in order to buy a Pal or Ntsc model)

4- The Leica dicomar on the HVX is diferent (hd quality) compared to the DVX one, oris it the same glass? (I know the diameter is diferent, but is the glass constitution and capable resolution different, or is it a dvx glass "seeing HD"?)

5- Make noise about a universal pal/ntsc camera! Say the oposition is well ahead in the game on that one, and how this is non productive for ENG shooting!

6- Just heard from a colleague that sent an e-mail to Panasonic Spain that, acording to them - I have a copy of that email- the 1080i picture (and eventually the 1080/24p comes from in camera uprezzing from 720P- please confirm that that is not true!

8- Don't go to too many "coffee shops"! We need you to see everything clearly! Our fate is in your hands! (man, my humor is really bad...)

Mikko Wilson
September 7th, 2005, 11:41 AM
yeah.. silly humor.. :)

Very good questions! i'll ad them tgo my list.

I can allready answer #3 ..yes there is a diffenrece between framerates for HD,.. a US HDTV won't neceseraly play back a 50Hz signal, and vice versa.

I feel your pain about PAL/NTSC.. I will definatly be asking about this. I shoot alot in both NTSC and PAL land... Z1 definaly has my respect for that feature.

I will be dooing a full report on the HVX for DVXuser.com - that will prolly be the fastest place to get the scoop, thoguh I'll be sure to post here too when I get the chance.

Okay, I'll send you guys an email just to confirm, uploading privs to our image gallery have been granted to Cemil Giray, Simon Wyndham, Brian Broz and Rob Lohman... sounds to me like a pretty strong IBC team, can't wait to see what you guys come up with!

Michael Maier... are you still planning to go?

September 8th, 2005, 05:56 AM
Hey Chris, I might. If I do, it will be closer to the end, like monday or tuesday. As of now, something has come up for the next couple of days :(
But it seems we have plenty of DVinfo members covering the event ;)
I'm glad.
