Hi, I have Vegas version 6 (old i know) and it frustrates the hell outta me that I can't seem to add a white soft edge border into my video, only a black one. Is there any free downloadable add-ons out there, or how does everyone else deal with this issue?

I though I was the only one still using version 6, glad to know there's a "club" ;-)

Once in a great while I need a soft edge white border so here's what I do. I place a track with a white generated media on it place a soft edge border on that then resize the upper track with the video slightly so show the white border. It has the look of a photograph that we used to get at a print processor.
You also can make a background template in your photo editing program (I use Photoshop) but most often the method I metioned above is quicker and does the job.

Use the cookie cutter fx., unless your older version doesn't have it. Start with the square preset, change to a rectangle, and adjust as needed; you can size/feather the border to your heart's desire.

6 does have the Cookie Cutter and yep, I forgot about that. Thanks for the reminder Jeff.

Awesome, thanks! I was beginning to waste too much time on this issue.

As you'll see you can make the border any color you choose; cookie cutter is a very flexible tool.

Another way to do this would be to add the BORDER effect to the event, set it to "Blurred" (which is what I assume you're doing to get the "black" border), and then add a white generated media on the track BELOW that clip. This will change the border to white.
