Has anyone got their hands on one of the WiFi adaptors { CBKWA01 } for the F800 / 700 yet? My local Sony dealer says they are going to be released here for sale very soon and I was hoping someone can tell me if they work the way they are promoted as working?

Thanks !!

Cheers, Tim.

Thanks Tim, you beat me to it!

I'm also wondering if anybody has heard when the common platform (MAC/PC) version of XDCAM Transfer (or the Avid equivalent) is due out, as until that software is available, Mac users will not be able to play.............. and literally nobody I work with uses a PC. I hope Sony is listening!

Cheers,

Brad.

The new XDCAM Browser software will be available in September. It combines all the functions of all the various XDCam software applications out there. It will be both PC & Mac compatible.

I'm looking forward to testing the wifi adapter myself, and I should get it soon as well.

I got another reply on another forum. I hope its okay to post it here too. Its from Alister Chapman of XDcam User.
"I've used it at a couple of trade shows and it's very clever. At the moment I believe it only works with Sony Ericsson phones. There is a 4 second delay on the video, but you can use this to your advantage when using shot markers as you can place the marker on the file just before the event happens. The WiFi adapter gives good range. At broadcast Asia I was shooting material on the booth while what I was shooting was being monitored from one central point. I could go quite a distance from the phone without any problems."

Can't wait to try it out myself, but hope the 4 sec delay is not correct.

Cheers, Tim.

I heard from Sony US that the SW for smart phones is being spec'd by Sony and coded by a third party company called Live cast. I phone, Blackberry and Windows mobile. It will be available in 1~2 months.
Where did you get your copy!? And how was it?

I just got a WiFi adaptors { CBKWA01 } and have it working. The delay when setup with an ad hoc wifi connection for me is approx 7 seconds. It seems to work well with the PDZ1 Live logging software even though I would say I don't like that version of the software as its not overly intuitive or user friendly.

I can see it will be a good tool on many of my shoots. It has some good functionality already like being able to set disc names, clip titles and more via WiFi

There is no mobile device support that I can find at this time. Also no support for Mac.

Cheers, Tim.

If this is the case, then the new XDCAM Browser will be a very useful tool. How many years has XDCAM been on the market?

XDCAM HD has been on the market since the spring of 2006, and that's when I got my PDW-F350. I now own the F350, F800, EX1, and EX1R (sold my EX3) and I have absolutely zero complaints about the software tools that already exist for the Mac and FCP. If Sony/Apple never changed anything it wouldn't bother me one bit. In fact, I really don't even see what features they could add that would even get me interested. Perhaps they'll surprise us with something really amazing, but I don't even have a wish list.

I can only guess that perhaps other NLEs don't have the same sophisticated workflow that us FCP users have, because it's great. I am in awe everyday at just how easy the XDCAM HD and XDCAM EX workflow is. Just amazing, really.. Hours and hours of saved man-hours every month compared to tape.

If you really want to see some crude software, checkout Canon's XF Utility for the XF305/300. That's like turning the clock back 3 years and detracts from an otherwise nice camera system.
