I make snowboarding and bike videos with my friends during my spare time, and this summer I will be attending a video workshop at a snowboarding camp in Oregon. I really need to upgrade my tripod, since the first one and the one I have I bought for 12 bucks at RadioShack and is basically a piece of junk.

I was planning to buy the Manfrotto 700RC2, but after placing a search of the forums, I quickly noticed that many dislike it and it isn't a true fluid head. So I decided to change my head, and think the Manfrotto 701HDV would be a better choice. I also use a Canon HF10, so its a pretty lightweight camera.

So what do you all think?

Guess the place to start is - how much are you prepared to spend?

Once we have that info, someone can come up with the best "bang per buck" option.

Well I guess about $300-$400, but possibly a little bit more.

For what your doing, the 701 would work great and you'd be really happy with it.

Went out and bought the 701 on Tuesday with the 055XB legs. You were right, the 701HDV is perfect. I love it!
