Well, now I've done it. I'm the definition of knowing just enough to get myself into trouble, and I really hate people like that.

So I've just done a clean install of Win7 64bit on my editing rig, formatting the C: drive as I went along. Everything went smoothly but now the Areca 1231ML controller is not seen by Windows, even though it POSTs fine. I downloaded what I think are the latest drivers but an unsure what to do next, as the README files are useless and there is no setup or install program. I assume I just copy the .sys files somewhere, possibly into the Windows/system directory, but I've done this and it makes no difference.

Clearly I'm an idiot and am missing the obvious.

Suggestions, anyone?

Figured it out with Harm's help (thanks, Harm, once again!) but I'll leave this so anyone as dopey as I am can look it up.

In Device Manager, look for the famous exclamation point, and when it says it can't find the driver (after you tell it to install/update and it volunteers to look on the web) just tell it to look where you saved the new downloaded driver. It'll find it and install lickety-split, no issues so far.

But the day is still young....
