Hi all,

I am having issues with getting my 500 to communicate via USB2.0 with any windows machine (XP, win7).

When I plug it into any USB port, and start to transfer files, I get incredibly slow speeds and then the cards go off line within minutes, like the power spiked on the cam, but i'm on AC! Sometimes the OS recognizes them, but most times i'll have to disconnect the camera and reboot it into USB mode.

I am running firmware version 1.00.09

What am i doing wrong as this is becoming quite infuriating....

Use a dedicated card reader (like the Panasonic AJ-PCD2G) or equivalent. I never connect the camera directly to my computer. Just in case you have an unlucky day where the USB or Firewire port sends a current beyond specs into the camera and fry something inside.

As for your problem - are you going via a USB HUB or connecting directly from camera to computer? Have you tried changing USB cables (just to test the cables)? And have you tried another USB port on your computer?

Hi Mike,

I have connected my SPX800 P2 and now my HPX172 via USB to my Mac's for over two years now with no issues... maybe you have a windows thing happening...
A panasonic PCD2 USB reader is on my shopping list whenever we get stocks here downunder.....

If your running a windows box there are many cheap card reader solutions out there...
a few here--
Desktop Computer PCMCIA CardBus PC Card Reader / Writer (Adapter, Socket Controller); Drives Bay or External Mounting (http://www.amtron.com/reader/pcdtp110cs.htm)
PCIe to PCMCIA CardBus PC Card Reader (1-Slot Card Drive / Bay Adapter) for Desktop Computer (http://www.amtron.com/reader/pciecb110.htm)
