I have a bunch of pocket cams and none are useable with the iPad. My 7D is a no-go because the Camera Connection Kit will only use a SD card .. and you cannot connect a card reader because it takes too much power..

The Pentax and Canon G9 at the top of the pile work fine. The cams that have internal memory have the same problem as a card reader even tho' they are internally powered. Some of the others will import but it comes aboard as a MOV file and that is not readable. The good news; a 22 minute, 720 HD video imports in about 70 seconds. Also, the iPad makes a great preview medium, easier/faster than my MBP and about 1/4 the weight.

Do you have further information about this? I'm looking for a video camera that can create files that will play on the iPad without conversion.

Thanks.

Hi Jim and Eric,
You may want to check out this Link that discusses iPad Video Formats.
Almost any way you slice it you will probably need to do some sort of File Conversion.

The Complete Guide to iPad Video Formats | iPadinTouch (http://www.ipadintouch.com/the-complete-guide-to-ipad-video-formats/)

I have a Panasonic HDC - TM700 HD Camcorder (now is the 900 Version - link below) that will shoot at various bit-rates and file sizes...but.. the AVCHD Files would then need to be converted for the iPad.

I do finished programming destined for iPad & iPhone via streaming web as well as direct file transfer via iTunes.
In all cases, my edited/original footage must be transcoded to the appropriate format, frame size, and data rate in order for it to be playable on these devices.
There may be a camera somewhere that just happens to record a format that meets these parameters, but I am doubtful :(
