It happens regularly that files from my 550d are not copying to my pc.
It shows the file but has 0 kb. I have tried to copy in Explorer, with Picasa, with Camera wizard. They all give error. This while the clips play normal on lcd or TV.
Anything I can do?

Is it possible that you renamed them?

I just realized you mentioned 'clips' and that the applications you mentioned are for pictures only. Try copying the files directly to your computer and opening them with a media player like QuickTime or VLC.

I always copy them directly from memory card to harddisk, not using any software then XP prof.
They just don't play on any player. Errors like 'cannot load' . Quick Time even crashes when trying to play them.

I haven't renamed them.
Until now I lost clips that I coul dlive without, but now I cannot copy a clip that I really need.
Please help with some suggestions. It is on my SD card and plays on tv and display. I can safe it for a while on card, but I want to have ot off on my pc. Nobody with this issue? It seems that it is the larger clips that give this problem. This one is 1 Gb.
Thanks,
Rob

I presume you mean you can play them back from the Camera's HDMI output. It also sounds as if you use a memory card reader to transfer to the PC?

I have had cases where memory cards appear corrupt to one device and not to the other, it may be that the card reader is giving problems.

Have you tried connecting the camera to your PC via the USB cable and transferring via the EOS utility?

Otherwise, you could try a different card reader if you can access one.

The card reader needs to be compatible with SDHC -- older ones are not.

Thanks for your replies.
I copy direct from 550d with USB 2.0.
Everything bigger then app. 850 Mb will not be copied!
Any other suggestions?

Rob, you really should be using an SDHC card reader instead of connecting directly to the camera.

An SDHC card reader is inexpensive and will most likely solve your problem.

Most modern PCs SD slot will read SDHC cards while older PCs won't.

You may need something like this:

Amazon.com: Sandisk MicroMate SD/ SDHC Memory Card Reader (White, BULK Package): Electronics

I used to get these packaged with SanDisk SDHC cards (think I purchased 2 this way) at a bargain price for both. I think I paid $39.95 for a 4GB Ultra card and the reader came with it at Best Buy but haven't seen anything packaged like that since. Been about 2 and half years.

Then one day I realized none of my PCs needed this.

Item referenced is from Blue Proton, a vendor associated with amazon. I've made several purchases from them through amazon and I had no complaints.

If that price is too much then you probably would be just fine with this one from B&H:

Hoodman | RAW-SDHCUSB Card Reader | RAW-SDHCUSB | B&H Photo Video

Bought a card reader (XTensions) and problems are solved.
Thanks for your advises.
