Well, let me start by saying that I don't watch TV or movies the same way joe-public does. I'm sure this is the case with most anyone who would be reading this post.

A few days ago, I was lucky enough to pick up a brand new 55" Samsung LED TV. This was to replace a 3 year old Sharp 42" LCD.
I thought the Sharp was great and have no complaints or regrets BUT....

HOLY CRAP the Samsung looks amazing! Actually a little too amazing!

I liken the experience to one I had many years ago at an audiophile friend's house when playing a CD of a jazz trio and then the vinyl from the same recording. The vinyl was stunning and was like someone lifted huge burlap sacks off the speakers.

This TV shows EVERYTHING! I was able to pick out all sorts of technical snafus in movies that I am very familiar with. (stuff like less than perfect compositing, camera shake, color matching cameras, etc) And when something's shot well...it jumps off the screen. The poorly shot stuff is truly hideous!

I have run footage directly from both my cameras to it and I'm pleased to say it looks exactly as I remember it (whether good or bad!)

Cudos to the Discovery Channel and actually most of the HD channels for some truly spectacular images.I knew they were shot well, but I feel like I have to go back and watch everything again as it's really that different!

Has anyone else had this kind of experience with the new LED TV's? It truly makes me want to be a better videographer! I think I'm going to have to get a smaller one for my editing room!

I bought my LCD 1080 Sony 3 years ago, having started shooting HD, and it was great.

Now, I deliberately DON'T go into any of the stores selling the latest systems as I KNOW just how good it looks.

I had no choice today but go into one of the local retailers to get some components, and in the process walk past some of the latest screen offerings, (expletive deleted) I was just blown away by some of the images this new stuff is capable of!

Crave, crave, crave, want, want, want - please, bank balance, go black for Momma, pretty please!

I noticed this too the other day at Frys... I had just purchased the Avatar Blu ray and had finished watching it.. it looked fantastic on my DLP....

Then I saw it on disply at the Frys store and to me the picture looked more like a video game, where on
mine the picture looked like a CG'd movie...

I find the sharpness default is too high on my Samsung. Just work the various setting to get the look you want.
In store the tv is probably playing from a high quality source. It makes sense for sales to have the image pop. But it's too much for anyone aware of video defects.
