Just doing a little testing with the 7D, Tokina 11-16 & 77mm Fader ND set up and specifically looking for vignetting. As expected with the lens all the way out at 11 you do get some (not a lot though) by 12 it's gone so that is still pretty wide and you still get all the benefits of the Fader. Just an FYI for those that were/are curious.

Same thing I found on the Singh-Ray and Tokina at 11mm.

And moving out to 12mm solves it. Great lens and very useful filter as noted in my post.

I get vignetting with my 77mm fader nd and my canon 17-55 efs 2.8 so I ordered an 82mm fader nd.

After further testing the 77mm wasn't causing the vignetting, it was my screw-on rubber lens shade. In fact using an 82 with 77-82 step up ring isn't all that great either because of the added narrow space the step up creates. My recommendation is to get the fader to match the size of of the lens. However, in full sun at wide you may need to add an additional Nd to avoid the "X" that happens at stronger values.

Jerry that's awesome news. I'm getting a fader nd very soon and will be using the 11-16 pretty often on some upcoming shoots.

Keith which rubber shade are you using? Is it a multi-position one? I do want to use a rubber hood with my 77mm fader ND when I get it and the idea of not being able to use a rubber hood at 17mm on it is troubling. 17mm isn't that wide.

why not just stop down to f22 if you have to? can't really get shallow depth of field at 2.8 on this lens anyway...

really? this seems pretty shallow! OK...not like my 50 1.4 though!
