Abraham Texidor Sr. April 19th, 2010, 01:15 PM The NX5 SD mode is very good. The footage hold up very well. The footage quality is a 100% improvement over down converting AVCHD footage to SD. Nick Popa April 19th, 2010, 01:49 PM here check out this, the first post has a video showing sd of the nx5... http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/sony-nxcam-hxr-nx5u/476930-nx5u-vs-dvx100b.html Steve Fox April 19th, 2010, 02:37 PM A couple of weeks ago I shot 17 1/2 hours of footage in the SD mode. It was single camera and straight cuts. The footage was great. I output onto DVD-R for delivery. This weekend I have three performances. I will be shooting SD to the SDHC cards and HD to the FMU at the same time. I will be editing both the SD and the HD footage and doing a comparison of the final output. So far the SD has been better than my PD 170. Steve Dan Asseff April 19th, 2010, 04:23 PM Untill I can get another NX5 I am shooting sd along side my PD170. I just did a two camera shot Saturday and they match up well. dan Forever Moments Video Productions (http://www.forevermomentsvideo.com) David Jonas April 19th, 2010, 08:55 PM Thanks guys. Looking to match up with a VX2100. Ben Moore April 21st, 2010, 03:09 PM Dan Are you shooting 4:3 or Widecreen with the NX5- PD170 combo? Ben Moore April 29th, 2010, 07:23 PM Thanks Dan Are you shooting 60i? Dan Asseff April 29th, 2010, 08:26 PM Ben I am sooting 1080/60i fx to the sd card and 480/60i 4:3 to the fmu. I did a one camera shoot under ideal lighting and switched to16:9 480/60i and man the sd image was realy sharp. I just can't wait to shoot and edit HD in 16:9. I am waiting for MC5 to come out. I'm a Avid Liquid user so I get the full version of MC5 for $495. Ben do you have the same shooting set up? I will have to say under low light the image didn't hold up as well as the HD image. I used the NX5 as second cam in a dance play with all kinds lighting.I was surprized that a strobe light didn't mess up the image. Dan Forever Moments Video Productions (http://www.forevermomentsvideo.com) Ben Moore May 1st, 2010, 11:14 AM Dan Yes, I have a similar setup/ situation. I have one AX-2000, one PD-170 and two VX-2100's. I plan on selling all three SD cams to buy another AX-2000 in the future, but I have a double booked project coming up where I will need to match the AX with the PD, so I have started experimenting with matching the two cams. Thanks for your input Ben Tom Hardwick May 4th, 2010, 03:48 PM I've used my Z1 in 16:9 SD for years - mainly so that I can import the footage as avi files down firewire. But the NX5 doesn't have firewire and neither does it make avi files, but it shoots SD in MPEG2, right? So if I want to carry on using Premiere v6.5 for some projects (which I do), what's the workflow order if I shoot SD in the NX5? Would I have to convert the MPEG2 files before Premiere 6.5 would recognise them? tom. Dan Asseff May 4th, 2010, 07:08 PM Tom I don't use PP6.5 but I do have premier elements 8 and it works fine without converting them. My main program is Avid Liquid and it work fine with that program to. I just bought Avid Media Composer for $495.00 I tried it in the trial version and it didn't work but I hope MC5 will work. The main reason I got it because it will edit AVCHD files natively. Dan Forever Moments Video Productions (http://www.forevermomentsvideo.com) |
