Hi Guys

Regarding Canon's H.264 from the 7D and T2i:
I'm searching for an optimal Procoder 3 format for subsequent footage editing in AE.
So far I'm noticing a slight drop in dynamic range (lighter blacks, darker whites) in most of my tests.

Any suggestions? File size is of less importance than quality, although I'd like to avoid uncompressed.

If I remember right, your issue with changes in blacks and highlights is due to the Gamma shift issue when going from Quicktime .mov files to PC based files. There is a change in gamma.

canopus HQ codec in procoder has options for
either
"RGB = ITU-R BT.601 range"
or
"convert RGB range [0,255] as IRE[0,100]"

i'm not sure which one to use but maybe one of them can fix your issue.
those gamma issues are annoying.
quicktimes on the pc give rarely same results depending on the player.

not sure actually. i used that codec on a previous job and was fine with the results. snappier response than original movs and still good quality.
not really worried about quicktime gamma issues at first since we were pleased with the lower perceived contrast anyways and then used after effects 16 bits colorspace to finish with effects & grading.
