View Full Version : having poor results with H.264

I am cutting a feature for broadcast on Monday and the broadcaster wants it delivered via a streamer in MainConcept MPEG4 H.264 to be transmitted in PAL widescreen

Now, I'm no pocket of knowledge when it comes to codecs so I thought I'd spend the day by trial and error seeing the best way to render something out and see the results.

Using Vegas 9.0d I have a mixture of SD25p, SD50i, XDCAM and HDV720p material to cut together.

All my variations so far in a 720p project and a 720x576 project have looked absolutely awful when rendered out to MC mpeg4.

Can anyone advise as to the best project settings to cut on and format to render this out? Typically the broadcasters are away for the weekend and I'll need to be half way through the edit by Monday, so I can't call and ask.

The joys of short notice jobs with new requirments!

Follow the settings here for exporting to Vimeo:

thanks for your reply Thomas but glancing at that site I think it relates to domestic interlaced camcorders uploading to Vimeo. I'm producing something from 720p for SD broadcast delivery.

Well yea, but (hint) you can change the frame rate :)

and it's also for progressive not interlaced...

This was the part from the blog I was specifically referencing
