Is there a problem leaving an optical disk in the camera? I know the disk does not touch anything. I just want to know if there is a reason not to keep the disk in the camera. Makes it nice to grab quickly and just shoot. With my EX1 I always take the SxS out when leaving the camera in a bag even over night.

Paul, I've been leaving discs in the cameras for years and never had a problem. I don't know what Sony's official recommendation is, but I'd be very surprised if anyone could point out any documentation that says you shouldn't.

Is it necessary or prudent to remove sxs cards as well, when not using the camera?

I've always kept an SxS card in my EX1, EX1R, and EX3 since the day I bought them. No problems.

But I don't store any of the cameras with a battery attached, or it will drain.

Paul, I always have an empty dual layer disc in my camera and a battery next to it for emergency shoots. Never had or noticed any problems with it. It's just like you said: put a fresh battery on it and off you go.

Thanks Doug good to know it is not a problem.

Some great shots yesterday at Pt. Judith. See you Tuesday.

Thanks Ivan,

I now keep a disk in the camera all the time. I also keep a charged battery on the camera.

A bit late to the discussion here, but wanted to say that being able to leave the disc in the camera is one of the advantages you gain when leaving the world of tape behind.

switching the camera off drives the laser back in its stop position and closes the disk´s lids. Mechanically no problem to leave it in, but never rely on an empty inserted disk ;-)

AND:
Get used to ALWAYS look on the thumbnails BEFORE you format the disk. Formatting is a matter of seconds, a mistake is done quite fast.

Have fun going tapeless!
