View Full Version : Best player for video playback Garth Witzel April 8th, 2010, 09:47 PM im just getting around to playing with my new t2i. Is there a better player than quicktime? seems kind of choppy thanks Hameed Aabid April 8th, 2010, 10:19 PM The best of the best... (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) I have not come across anything that it didn't play. Chris McMahon April 8th, 2010, 10:57 PM VLC doesn't play WMVs, at least in my experience. That being said, WMV is an awful format, anyway. Ed Kishel April 9th, 2010, 10:52 AM why do you think it's awful- I find .wmv files to have very good quality and small file sizes. Perrone Ford April 9th, 2010, 11:41 AM VLC doesn't play WMVs, at least in my experience. That being said, WMV is an awful format, anyway. WMV (VC-1) is one of the best playback formats available. It's truly a shame Macs don't play it well. You might want to read up a bit on the codec/container before declaring it awful. Michael Rosenberger April 9th, 2010, 02:04 PM It's odd that Quicktime doesn't play the file well, but it plays just fine in FCP, which is using Quicktime. David St. Juskow April 10th, 2010, 10:58 AM Funny, I have the opposite issue. QT Pro plays them back smoother than FCP. Neither are perfect, but QT comes close enough for at least a primary QC. Interestingly, video files from the 5D play with a lot more stuttering, though the bitrates are comparable. Same system, same file format (seemingly) but the T2i plays better. George Angeludis April 10th, 2010, 01:35 PM One very good player I use since I abandoned VLC, is Media Player Classic (http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/). But because I am on W7 Ultimate it has the limitation for the moment not being able to play QT files. At 32bit versions however it can play any QT file. Hameed Aabid April 11th, 2010, 03:47 PM VLC doesn't play WMVs, at least in my experience. That being said, WMV is an awful format, anyway. Yes... I have had very little to do with WMVs.... as little as I forgot it existed. Correction: I have not come across anything that it didn't play, except for wmvs. Gintaras Mockus April 12th, 2010, 04:42 AM Have you tried Canon zoombrowser player? For me it plays Canon's mov better than QT and VLC |
