As most probably know, PicVideo is a pretty good M-JPEG intermediate format. After 6 generations, it shows a bit more degradation than Cineform, but not by much - see comparisons at
Sony Creative Software - Forums - Vegas Pro - Video Messages (http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=655574)
The price for PicVideo has increased about 3-fold in recent years, but the 32-bit encode/decode still can be purchased for about U.S. $40 here:
Resolume VJ Software - Shop - PICvideo MJPEG Codec (http://www.resolume.com/shop/codec.php)
I think someone asked where to get it for that price recently (so sorry, I can't remember who); I hope this info is useful.
