I'm guessing that people using 7d and 5ds for weddings utilize them for short cinematic shots, correct?

I do a ton of promotional materials for my church and I'm needing a camera. However, I want to get one that I can utilize with my wedding videography as well.

I'm shooting now with an FX1. Will the 7d and 5d work as a backup or just for the above mentioned shots?

Ryan, they are used for everything in weddings. Generally, if you are the only shooter you would use a HD camera. I shot on a HD camera and my second videographer gets the nice shots with a 5D. I end up using all or most of his shots and only use the HD camera for the ceremony for a diff angle.

I suggest renting one, before buying one and use it as a second camera for practicing during the reception. Shots always come out too shaky if it's not on a steadicam, tripod, or monopod. Even shoulder mounts come out shaky.

Take the plunge and rent one. You will learn very quickly what the DSLR takes.
