I know this has been done before but I couldn't resist...

This is my 70-200 F4L on the T2i in video crop mode meaning the fully zoomed in one is a 1400mm equivalent!

Wow... Now I have never been able to successfully get a shot of the moon with my D40. Is there something that you are doing here that allows you to be able to see the moon so vividly? I will be an owner of a T2i soon so how did you do it on there?

Remember that what you're seeing when you look at the moon is reflected sunlight,
so you'll need to expose as if you're shooting in broad daylight (which you are).

yeah..it was a bit weird, I ended up on F/4 iso800 with the shutter at 3200. The L glass on a tripod I think is the real secret. Plus I'm in AZ where the sky is extremely clear. (at least where I am!)

Yeah thats what I assumed was that your living location was partly do to the clarity haha. I however live in Southern Indiana though we did have a full moon the other night that was quite vivid.

Isn't there a time when the moon is significan'tly closer to the earth making it look enormous?

Awesome! Tried shooting the moon the other night... with poor results. Great idea using the crop mode.

...And Chris, thanks for the tip about color temp - you'd never think to set it for broad day light.
