For all you sound gurus out there, do you ever run across either a used Schoeps CMIT 5U or Sanken CS 3e? And if so how much do they run? I'm looking to upgrade to a first class mic but would really like to save some money if possible.

Thanks,
Garrett

And I'm still looking through yard sales for a pair of Neumann U67's! HaHa!

Seriously though, there's a reason you won't find them for sale used all that often. And if you do expect to pay a LOT! Reality is with that level of gear, you might only save $100-$200 over new. Since your in the $2K range, personally I'd buy new from a good dealer so you know exactly what you're getting.

Definitely tough mics to come by at extremely good prices.

I've bought a Sanken CS-3e from a member here in the last year and a Schoeps off of ebay, so they are out there. There is some Schoeps gear for sale by a member over at jwsound.net.

The CMIT5u was introduced only a year or two ago so the odds of finding a used one already are that much lower. The CMC641 has been a standard for decades so the odds are stronger in finding one of those used. You would want to check the RAMPs discussion groups for these. Gotta go where the sound pros go, which is mainly their own boards, not mainstream boards like this one as much.

Thanks for the info. I'll be keeping an eye out on various boards.

Jon, how much did your CS 3e end up costing?

Thanks,
Garrett

Hi Garrett,
I bought the Sanken for $900.I must say I love this mic and use it for 90% of what I do.

Thanks Jon,

I'm not in a hurry so if I could find a CS 3e for $900 I'd jump on it. Better if I could find a CMIT 5U for about the same type of savings. I'll be trolling around all the message boards and keeping an eye out for ebay and Craigslist.

I have gotten to use a Sanken once and loved the sound too. A sound guy I know has the Schoeps and so have become a big fan of that mic. I heard that Schoeps came out with a new shotgun, the SuperCMIT. Maybe some crazy person out there will need to upgrade and end up selling hie CMIT 5U.

Thanks again,
Garrett
