I am using my XHA1 with Sony Vegas 8.0c on Windows 7 (capturing via firewire). A production house is asking that I provide interview clips in ProRes 422 format. Is there a workflow/conversion process?

Specs:

Recording format: HD 16x9
Frame size: 1920x1080
Frame rate: 29.97 NTSC

All files should be converted into QuickTime movie files using the ProRes 422 codec
1920 x 1080, 29.97 fps, Square aspect ratio

As far as I am aware ProRes is a quicktime / apple codec so you would have to do it on an Apple or see whether the qt pro plugin works for Vegas and has the ProRes Codec.

I believe Cineform Neoscene (for the Mac) will convert .m2t files directly to ProRes, but this process requires that FCP is loaded on the same machine. Or there's ClipWrap which can re-wrap your .m2t files to Quicktime .mov files which can then be converted in FCP or Compressor to ProRes. Or you could re-capture with FCP directly to ProRes.

Anyway you do it, you have to get a hold of a Mac, as Jonathan noted, you can only convert to ProRes if you're on a Mac. The ProRes codec on the PC is read only.

[EDIT] fyi - The XH-A1 shoots 1440x1080, using a square aspect ratio will set it to the 1920x1080. But you may want to ask them and see how they would like to handle it, as the timeline in FCP will automatically adjust for the difference.

So what settings/presets should I set on the XHA1 to achieve the required format?

Depends on what format they want the ProRes in options would be:

60i
50i
30p
25p
24p

All of these can be shot with the A1 and have a matching ProRes Preset.

Do they want 30p or 60i aka 30f and 60i?

I am going to assume that is the case. Obviously I'm new to this. Thanks for your help. I will try a few settings and post if I have questions. Any advice is appreciated. This will be for a close-up interview, with a over-exposed/pure white background.
