Hi I have a problem capturing video from a sony Z1P, eg, the footage has lot of short takes, it plays fine in the camera, but when i capture it in FCP, It keeps dropping in and out, even if i tell the software, to capture in 1 take not time code break, or start stop points, so other than FCP and i movie is there any other capture utility ???

If you're using firewire than pretty much no, unless you have access to Adobe Premiere, ect. Also, you could look at the free application called image capture.

The other option and the preferred one is to capture via a capture card (ie - AJA or BlackMagic). This will allow for capture now without timecode breaks.

Rob,

Not sure what you mean by "but when i capture it in FCP, It keeps dropping in and out"
Can you pls clarify to see if you are referring to time code break issues.

Are you capturing to HDV format? Have you tried Apple pro res?

HDV>ProRes capture works better but it still will find an occasional odd place to split the file. The slightly unwieldy combo of DVHSCap and ClipWrap works better for me. Do a search here about how to use them or MPEGStreamclip.
