Does somebody have experience with this item. I mean the blimp. Is it any good?

Anyway, I would be happy with some advise. I really do not care about handling noise. I only need good wind protection. I wonder if a cheaper thing, such as:

Will these give good protection on a Rode shotgun? It seems to me that there will be a still air layer in these things too, like in a blimp.

Although I haven't used the camera mount, the rycote lyre suspension is the quietest and most affordable around. If you added a furry windjammer I would think you would have excellent protection.

It all depends on how much wind there is .. as the wind increases so does the need for bigger protection.

You've got to determine whether you'll have an operator before you decide to employ a Blimp ie: the basket shaped rig over which you pull on the furry windscreen. The Blimp won't sit on a camera.

If not your next best choice is the RODE WS6 (and WS7) I think they're underrated they're similar to the Reinhardt but less expensive .. and not as good in very strong winds where you'd need a Blimp.

If you want to use it on a camera the Rycote Camera Kit is absolutely the best - with the supplied Windjammer that goes over the basket it actually works out slightly better than a Softie, but at a lower price.

This windshield (the basket like thing) in the Rycote kit, is that not what you call a BLIMP?
Yes, I want to use it on camera. I know that blimps in general are for using on a boom pole, but why can't it sit on camera?

The windshield in the Rycote Camera Kit is not really a "Blimp" - I see the term "Blimp" to be a basket windshield that totally encloses the microphone and with an internal shockmount.

These are normally far too large and unwieldy to mount on a camera.

The windshield on the Rycote Camera Kit is a small windshield (bade of the same material as a full size windshield ("Blimp") that pushes onto the front of the microphone - if you add the matching Windjammer it gives very good wind attenuation and is still easy to mount on a camera.

OK, thanks. Last question before I buy. Would that basket windshield also fit the Rode Videomic? I canot find a picture of the Videomic without foam on it.

The Rycote MiniScreen will fit any mic between 19mm and 25mm in diameter.

It's also available in 4 lengths = 10, 12, 14 & 18cm.

So - I think the answer is "yes" but you need to find the spec. of the interference tube (diameter and length).
