I just got a Canon 550D and need a shotgun mic and a field recorder. I'm pretty settled on the DR-100 for the recorder in my budget.

Any comments on the difference between the three mics?

Haven't got into that format yet .. but unless you want to record speech I'd get a stereo mic first.

Cheers.

Michael,

If you do some research here you can find your information. when I did it I ended up getting the AT 897 as it was repeated stated that it is the best bang for the buck and often a milestone of comparison.

I have a rode video mic which is quite good actually. However I use the At 897 a lot and it has done fine service for me and i use it to capture wildlife up to 50 yards away with effect.

Here is a link to a grouse video and the audio was captured with the 897. many of the grouse were 40 to 50 yards off.
