View Full Version : Chapter Marker Workflow?

I have read through several posts but still wondering how you guys/gals do this.
When working through a project (lets say a wedding) and you want to set chapter markers for DVDSP or iDVD when and where do you set your markers?
My workflow so far is this:
I edit the entire sequence and then go back through adding in chapter markers in the timeline where needed. Then export and send to iDVD.
my issue is that it would be easier to add markers as I edit since I could skip the step of rewatching to find the chapter locations.

But the catch is that if you add markers as you go and then make any changes to the timeline all the markers are wrong.

so how do you do your chapter markers?

here is one thread I found helpful but did not answer my issue exactly.

If I'm not mistaken, Final Cut Studio 3 has a new feature where the markers move along with the changes made in the timeline.

I have FCP5, so the markers don't move.

To jump to the markers, use shift & pg up or down to easily find your markers.

I find it's easier to work on smaller separate sequences at a time, and when they are at a rough/finish, I then copy and paste into the full project timeline.

Then the markers go in and after editing, I either go to marker-reposition, but since that sometimes doesn't work as I'd hope, I go to the place that I want the marker, copy the time code, then go to the marker that I want to move, hit m which opens it up and then paste the new time code. The marker moves to where you want it.

Goes pretty quick once you get the hang of it.

Seems to be about Sequence Markers and not Chapter Markers though...

I think I will have to continue doing it as I have in the past adding markers at the final step just before sending to compressor. However I think this will help me get fcs3 so that it will not be an issue anymore. Thanks for the links and tips as well. I appreciate them as I have now found some better techniques to export and burn my dvds as a result of browsing those new links etc...
This forum rocks!!!
keep up all the helpful work guys!
Thanks!
