I own a 5D, and ordered a 7D which will be here next Monday. BUT, due to some last minute scheduling conflicts, I HAVE to plan out my shots now (meaning whether to shoot the project all in 30fps, or 24fps) before I have a chance to test out the 60fps on the 7D.

My question is this: Which conversion will produce the more smooth slow motion 60-24 or 60-30 or is it indistinguishable??? I will be using Premiere cs4 and Prospect HD to edit.

I shoot 60-30 mainly for stock video, most of the buyers I sell to are working in a 30fps timeline. Frame rate is really governed by final use of the footage.

If your work flow is correct then a frame is a frame..

Think about it.

If you shoot 10 seconds at 60p. Then playback all 600 frames on a 30p timeline, it will take 20 seconds to play your footage.

Now, how long will it take to playback all 600 frames in a 24p timeline?

I find the 24p studders, so I mostly shoot in 30p.

Just got a response in Cineform forum that hdlink conforms the 60-24p, cant wait to see how that looks compared to the 60-30

As I said earlier, if you post it correctly, it will look the same - just slower.

If I understand the question - shooting at 60p, you can slow the footage down by 50 percent in a 30p project and 60 percent in a 24p project. Both will give you the same "smoothness" but a 24p project will give you slower slow-mo.

(I think I got those percentages right. 60p = .5 in 30p, .4 in 24p)

got it. i think i was psyching myself out, because of the way 30 and 24 look so different. and so mentally i was transferring that to the 60conversion without thinking about the math
