I have been out of video production for about five years, working IT and I am at a point I want to start my own company. Of course a lot has changed for me since I stopped working video (wife, kids, house, cars, etc....). But it is time for me to start my own company. Equipment wise I am set, I have everything I need to get going in any area of video, and have access to anything I do not have. What I need some help on is what areas can I focus on, in a part time basis to get going and get to a point where it can become a full time thing for me. Some of the areas I was looking at were dvd creation, corporate, and training, photo/slide transfers to video/dvd, sports scholarship videos. My experience is in high end corporate, and sports. Is there any areas I should look into.


Any advice on marketing, to get my name out there. I am lucky enough that there is only one production company in the area I live in, and they really suck. For comercial production there is also they local cable company and they also suck. I have all the technical experience and equipment, just need to figure out what I need to do, and how to get my name out there.

Goggle "Video profit center" and then look at the areas some of those companies are touting as profitable video activities.

For marketing guidance there is Video Business Advisor (http://www.videobusinessadvisor.com/index.html). I can't vouch for the effectiveness of it, but I think its been discussed in this forum at some point in the past.

Some areas might be hard part-time, just due to scheduling issues. To do corp work & training, you need to be avaiulable for marketing, meetings, etc. during reg business hours. OTOH, a wedding biz can easily be done nights and weekends.
