Hi gents,

I'm looking to buy a telephoto lens (70-200mm). My first preference was Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS but the price just don't fit my budget. :(

What would you recommend, from budget point of view I was leaning towards Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 but is it good for video (mostly for wedding) as it doesn't have a stabilizer?

I heard the new one with OS (Optical Stabilizer) is coming out but I can't see what the price for that one would be. Anyone knows?

Any comments are appreciated! :)

Cheers,

John

John,

If you want a lens just for video then there are plenty of cheaper and good options.

If you want stills and video then try an older Canon 70-200 f2.8 with no IS or either one of the 70-200 f4L lenses (IS and non IS) I don't find losing f2.8 for f4 so bad much of the time and you can always add in a fast prime or two to supplement the zoom for lest cost than a 70-200 f2.8L IS.

If its for video only then check out Nikon 80-200 f2.8 AFD (two touch) or alternatively look at a set of old Nikon or Zeiss/Contax primes. You should be able to get an 85mm, 135mm and 180mm a f2.8 or faster in either Nikon or Zeiss for less than the 70-200 f2.8 Canon.

I have the Tamron 70-200 f2.8 and I use it exclusively for video and I love it.
