View Full Version : Is T3.5 different from F3.5? Should i expect translations in DOF?

Hey, what's up guys?
being off the field for a while.

Need some help here.
thank you very much in advance.

I want to know if there's any difference between let's say: T2.8 and F2.8
I notice the aperture in some lenses, such as the panavisions, comes expressed with a "T"

Is one or the other getting more light to the sensor,
so the DOF is different from one each other?

*T* stops take the loss of light through the lens into account. F Stops are mathematical formulas that give an ideal best case. In other words, F Stop pretends there is no light loss through the glass, whereas T-Stops take the loss of the glass into account.

Is there a chart with equivalents of T-Stops to F-Stops ?

no, the whole point is that t-stops are calibrated to a given lens, where f-stops are, as Perrone says, simply mathematical and thus have more margin for error.

Just use the t-stops as you used to use f-stops and you will be fine.
