Which still digital camera has the greatest resolution? Pretend for a moment that nothing else mattered about it!

Thanks

There is Canons 1Ds Mark II with 16Mio pixels and there are several digital camera backs for medium/large format cameras in the 20Mio pixel range.

May be somewhere out there are custom built cameras with even higher resolution and most certainly the military guys have something even better.

I thought it was the mamiya z series. At 22 megapixel it stands alone.

Technically the Mamiya ZD does not yet exist. Its introduction has been pushed back once or twice, although pre-production models are making their rounds. The ZD is also a medium-format camera, not 35mm.

Technically the Leaf and Imacon digital backs (for medium-format film cameras) are the currently available feature the greatest number of pixels. They'll set you back $20,000-$22,000.

The Canon 1Ds Mark II is the current pixel king of DSLRs, featuring a full-frame image capture.

Why do you ask?

I'm just curious to know what the resolution ceiling is at the moment. 22 Megapixels it sounds like? But when I looked at that Mamiya link I found that the camera, indeed, is not out quite yet (according to them anyway) and that they can't spell too good! Also, it says 'Best of all, the Mamiya ZD digital camera is fully compatible with all Mamiya 645AF lenses..' - I assume it's compatible with other lenses too, right, of the same diameter?

I bought a Mamiya RZ67 Pro IID in hopes that the ZD back would have been released in a timely fashion. But then the months passed, and no news. I finally called Mamiya to inquire, and they told me no definite date yet, and expect price to be anywhere from 12-15K. Crop factor is also 1.5, which would have made my 50 ULD useless, as I shoot alot of landscapes. Suffice it to say, I decided to trade it in for a Sony Z1U. Less hassle this way, as most of my photography is all digital using Canon SLR's. I still have my darkroom and Omega D5-XL along with an Arax CM 6x6 for those shoots still needing film.

I still shoot MF film -- if I got 15K lying around it is going into video equipment.

Of the affordable DSLRs I’m very interested in Canon’s new 5D, 13 Megapixel full-frame DSLR.
