Does the XH A1 have capability to capture from a VHS player?

I need to copy 3 VHS tapes to mini DV so I can capture them as ProRes 442.

Any suggestions on this?

Looking at the back of my xh a1:

I'm not sure where to bring the VCR in. If it's on that component out (DTC-1000), I'm pretty sure I don't have a cable like that.

AV1 terminal ( Use the av cable that came with the camera)

To connect to a VCR you use the AV cable. It has a 3.5mm TRRS (tip-ring-ring-sleeve) minijack plug at the camera end and it goes in to the AV socket (the yellow one below the headphone socket). The other end of the AV cable has three RCA phono plugs - white and red for audio left and right and yellow for video. These go in to the VCR.

If your VCR doesn't have RCA phono outputs you will need to use a SCART to phono adaptor.

Glad it worked, Oliver.

I really would recommend you download the pdf manual (there's a link in the stickies on this forum but this should work - just tested it). You can use the Adobe Reader 'find' function to locate all these obscure functions of the camera in seconds without reading through umpteen pages of the paper manual.

I digitised all my family VHS tapes and put them on DV tape, DVD and hard drive just to be sure.
