View Full Version : EX1R and Avid! Help.....
Giannis Pass January 31st, 2010, 11:21 AM Hello,
i want to import Dv files that shot with ex1r to Avid Media Composer.
It is .AVI files.
I have to use File Browsing or import directly to Avid from the card?
What settings to Avid import?
Thanks
Roddy Jamieson January 31st, 2010, 02:52 PM The import settings will have no effect, if you are importing files then they will be native DV. If you digitise then you can change the format.
The only way to import with Avid is with the Import menu or drag and drop into the bin. Are you on Mac or PC?

ThanksThe latest version of Avid Media Composer - version 4.05 - now supports this directly through AMA.
Here's what is written in the readme file for it:
* Avid supports linking to XDCAM EX DV-AVI media, as well as 1440 x 1080 HD media
with AMA. Go to http:/www.avid.com/ama/ to view the XDCAM EX AMA Plug-ins
Release Notes from Sony.
Thierry Humeau February 1st, 2010, 05:00 AM AMA is awesome. I did some tests yesterday with mixing PAL and NTSC 1080 60i HQ and 1080 25p HDV footage shot with the PMW350 on the same card. I could edit straight from the SxS card and mix the clips at will on the timeline. All played back smoothly and in real time. Pretty amazing...

Giannis Pass February 1st, 2010, 09:32 AM Using AMA is the same procedure with DV and with HD 1080??

Thierry Humeau February 1st, 2010, 12:57 PM Which version of Media Composer do you use?
Giannis Pass February 1st, 2010, 01:08 PM I am using 4.0.3
Perrone Ford February 1st, 2010, 01:19 PM AMA should link up to any P2 or virtual P2, or XDCAM/XDCamEX volume. It can't do that with any tape based format.
Roddy Jamieson February 1st, 2010, 03:30 PM Make sure that the AMA is activated in Settings (first on the list). Then whenever an XDCAM disc or SxS is detected, it fills a bin with it's contents.
I used with the XDCAM discs, but found it to be slow, the SxS should be much faster.
Giannis Pass February 11th, 2010, 09:58 AM The AMA is working only with HiDef XDCAM files, or also with Dvcam?
I am asking it because i cant find any files recorded to Dvcam format

DVCam is tape. AMA does not work with tape.
Roddy Jamieson February 11th, 2010, 10:57 AM I think you mean that you can't find any DV footage. I assume you had changed the recording format before shooting?
Giannis Pass February 12th, 2010, 05:46 PM I have ex1r and i have recorded dvcam footage.
My question is if i can use AMA with dv or only with HD.
Thanks

AMA does not understand DVCam. It understands XDCam, P2, and one Ikegami type.
Ola Christoffersson February 13th, 2010, 05:32 PM Perrone - I'm sorry but you are wrong about this. The answer given earlier in this thread is correct.
Avid Media Composer does in fact recognize DVCAM (yes - this is what Sony calls even the non tape based version of the format) as AMA media. You have to use ver. 4.05 for this to work though.

Thank you Ola. The version I used did not. Apparently this is new.
John Mitchell February 13th, 2010, 08:37 PM Giannis - I would recommend going to the Avid Download Center and upgrading to V4.05 - it is free for V4 users.
