View Full Version : 7D test footage needed
Jason Bagherian January 29th, 2010, 10:28 AM Hello. Could any one here point me in the right direction? I need a clip/footage shot on the 7D. I would like to test the footage from the 7D and compare it to HDV footage shot on a Sony V1. I want to see how much better the footage would be from the 7D, or won't it? If possible the footage should be 1920x1080 25p (does it film 25p, or 24p?), I just want to test the footage in my edit suite before purchasing.
I have had a bad experience with Canon in the past, but I like what I read about this camera.
Thanks, Jason
Ben Winter January 29th, 2010, 10:37 AM Jason,
I'm not aware of any raw footage available online--someone else may be able to point you to it--but if necessary I can provide you some from my own 7D and upload the raw files to my server (they are large). I'll see if I can get to it today.
Do you have Cineform? It makes editing these files incredibly hassle-free.
7D does indeed do 25p, it has a PAL mode.

Ben if you could do that for me I would be very grateful. I would prefer raw footage from the camera. I don't have Cineform as yet, I've read it doesn't work very well with Sony Vegas.

Canon EOS 7D Hands-on Preview: 14. Samples: Digital Photography Review (http://www.dpreview.com/previews/canoneos7d/page14.asp)
and 5 here

its all raw, native, untouched...

I have Cineform Neoscene and the converted files work great in Sony Vegas.
James Strange February 2nd, 2010, 09:17 PM Excellent, this is exactly what I'm looking for
Im wanting to see how well 7d 25p footage cuts together in premiere pro (cs3) with 1080i HDV footage (from sony z5 and fx7, maybe even hc1)
Anyone got any experience with this?
Anyone got any 25p footage they could upload or point me to the link?
Cheers
James
Mike Calla February 2nd, 2010, 10:13 PM the links are above, frame rates, resolutions are listed
Jason Bagherian February 3rd, 2010, 08:15 AM Mike, for some reason I can't download the footage from that site, it says that I need to upgrade to Quicktime Pro.
I presume you own a Canon 7D, Could you comment a little on the quality of the video? Would you say it is better than HDV?
Thanks, Jason
Mike Calla February 3rd, 2010, 11:55 AM Right Click, save as... you don't need quicktime pro, just normal quicktime, those are NATIVE 7D files. When the prompt comes up you have many choices.
HDV vs 7D: 7D hands down, even with its shortcomings!!!

Actually Cineform and Vegas play very nicely with one another..
