Does anyone know of any Sony-certified camcorder repair places in the Bay Area, or even non-certified, for that matter?

My FX7 suffered a fall, and, although it's working, the focus is making a lot of noise, doesn't seem to be aligned right, and the Push Autofocus isn't working too well.

VMI in Sunnyvale does good work. They repaired my FX-1 last year - no complaints.

Thanks! Hopefully they're open tomorrow...

They were open! Hooray!

Hopefully it's just misaligned and doesn't need replacement parts...

$1500 in repairs to a $2000 camera. Needs an all-new lens unit. Gah.

Time to buy new. I had same issue with a fire wire port on my FX1. Still shoots fine, so I capture using my Canon HV20, but it sure wrecks the resale value.

Yeah, I've got a few projects I'm going to finish up with it as is, plus a web design gig, so I'll be getting a HMC40 to replace it. I was going to do so anyway, but sell the FX7; I guess it'll end up being a static B-cam now.

In a mind-boggling stroke of good luck, I drive out to Sunnyvale, pay $80, grab the camera, go home, switch it on, and find that the problem isn't even a tenth as bad as it was a week ago, even though the tech claimed he didn't do anything aside from take it apart and put it back together.
