I realize so far that Vegas has many many small settings to be done that can alter the outcome by far.


So my process step by step is this:

I capture with a Sony Z5 in HDV mode on tape.

Then capture with Vegas 9c 64 on Win7 64 pc with Q9550 8GBRAM as:

Then i do my editing and color.

When i am done, i want to export in DV Widescreen for burning in DVD that will play in TV.

So, i export using these serttings:

When the render is complete, i have an avi file that i put to Encore and make my DVD.

Still i am not happy with the results especially when the camera move quickly or when i do slow motion somewhere.

Am i missing anything? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

You are reencoding twice using this method - first to .avi and the to MPEG2 when you make you DVD. You should render to MPEG2 directly. You will have less quality loss this way.

I understand what you suggesting, but if i end up with mpeg file and it's too large to fit in a DVD won't encore re-compress it?
Isn't best to re-compress straight from avi?

You can use a bit rate calculator and set the bit rate when you encode the MPEG2 so that it will fit onto a DVD. If you use variable bit rate, you can fit more on a DVD without losing quality because the higher bit rates are used only when needed in scenes where there is more motion.

When you bring the MPEG2 file into Encore, make sure that Encore is set to smart render; that is it won't reencode the MPEG2 file.

It's important to avoid reencoding because you will lose a noticeable amount of video quality if you do.
