I'M AT MY WIT'S END!!!!!

I'm trying to upload to youtube...
Here's my initial scenario..
I'm encoding a .MOV format, with the .H264 codec, and AAC for Audio...
The sample clip is 7:48 sec, and i'm using 128 kbps audio..

I'm trying to target a 1000MByte upload, by using the Bitrate Calculator (http://www.3ivx.com/support/calculator/index.html). Of course the final result is 17376 kbps.
But the real world output is 1.22MBytes...

Whey using the Sorensen Squeeze codec, this issue goes away...

Since i'm on CS2.0, and using the Matrox Media encoder, is it possible that the .H264 codec is an older version, or i'm somehow getting the video padded unnessecarily?

Looks like you're over by the bitrate of your audio. So compensate the video rate by 128 Kbps.

Hey, thanks Perrone.....

That's what i though initialy.

But unfortunately, the Audio is in kbps, therefore, it doesn't even put a dent into the 22% over targeted upload....
Again, it's only with the h.264 codec. Sorensen Squeeze3 keeps the correct targeted filesize..

What a pain!!!

Your numbers look all goofy. For example, you don't want a 1GB (1000MB - as you put it, 1000MByte) file as a result, do you? (17Mbps H264 is massive overkill for 640x360 video on YouTube.)

Agreeing with Robert here - the numbers are so whacky they may be breaking the encoder.

A really good quality MP4 bitrate for SD that you might try just to create a benchmark for your workflow: 1.8Mbps. (1800Kbps)

Try that - it may be all you need.

Ughhh....
I wanted to take advantage of the 1gig filesize, and upload what was an HD video originally..I've got my head stuck in the MPEG2 clouds, thinking that every bitrate counts..
I keep forgetting that h.264 is a differrent animal..

It totally makes sense..I'll play around with some more realistic settings..The slide scale of the video bitrate threw me off. Why is it scaled to such large values?
