Really like the EX1 and thinking of buying one over the JVC HM700, but would like to be able to use it shoulder mounted (can't afford a 350 unfortunately!). Has anyone tried the EX1 with the Protech ST-7EX13 shoulder mount and a sock-loupe or similar?

The EX1R is a fantastic camera.

You may want to check out the plate/wing/shoulder mount system I make for it.

I got the Shape WLB Sumo Shoulder Mount with the counter weight. It works great with the Hoodman LCD Hoodloupe. However, I recently discovered I don't need the Hoodloupe because of my myopic advantage. I just push my glasses down and I can focus 3" away. Why I didn't think of this before, I don't know. Now I'm trying to rig up some sort of LCD hood.

I cut off the front of the Sumo to make it as portable as possible and I have both hands on the camera so I don't need the handles. The result is a very portable, very stable shoulder mount. It even fits in my camera bag. Sometimes I use the counterweight, sometimes I don't.

I think this solution is even better for stability than solutions for the EX-3. Why? Because you can move the EX1 further back, closer to your shoulder. The closer you can get the weight to your body, the more stable it is.

Brett - your above statement is quite true and while I have the Shape WLB (Spider 2) - I went ahead and ordered Olof's new shoulder mount ( see attached image) which moves the camera back further to easily use the HoodLoupe (my right eye can't focus that close) and also has a counterbalance using the Switronix battery. Will let you know how it works out next week.

The camera on my modified Sumo is in about the same position as the above photo. The main advantage I see of my setup over this one is the shoulder pad that wraps around your shoulder. I believe it probably feels a little bit more stable. I'll try to post a photo of my setup.
