I swear I've seen something along these lines posted before, but I just can't seem to locate it. So, sorry for any repetition:

I'm using Neo Scene (latest update, although I've tried older with similar results) with AVCHD MTS 1080x1440 . Files convert fine (playable, with audio), but are 'huge'. Example:

MTS 7.740 KB (interlaced)

->

All - deinterlace enabled, Smart Rendering turned off

Low quality 54.605 KB (7x)
Medium quality 66.691 KB (8x+)
High quality 84.259 KB (11x)

I'm pretty certain I shouldn't be seeing files anywhere near that big. Something has got to be wrong. Suggestions?

P.S. I've CoreAVC Pro (1.95, then upgraded to 2.00, same story) installed. Vista 64.

There are supposed to get bigger, but how much as compared to the source depends on how compressed the source images are. AVCHD can be VERY compressed. CineForm file are typically 8-12 times smaller than uncompressed (the gold standard for quality), yet AVCHD can be 100 times compressed (something has to give.) If you running the 24Mb/s modes on AVDHD camera the data might 4X larger in CineForm, if you run the 9Mb/s modes they will often be 10X. Run the camera in as high a quality as possible.

Thanks for the quick reply. That may be the explanation. I had been reading of more common results like 2x-4x, but then one has to consider the extra high AVCHD compression ratio.
