Is UWOL 16 around the corner? Or should I start checking back in a couple of weeks?

:-)

Ryan, we are in the middle of the (2nd) annual UWOL/DVC charity challenge now.
Deadline is January 10. The theme is already announced weeks ago, but you can still sign up and join us there.
See the separate subforum for the charity challenge for more details.
The DVC / UWOL Charity Challenge Forum at DVinfo.net (http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/dvc-uwol-charity-challenge/)

Next UWOL Challenge will probably not begin until well after the charity challenge has finished.

Ah! Thanks. I had read a little about it but didn't realize...

Was wondering when the next uwol is going to be, no hurry just wondering.

Hopefully soon. I'm ready for a new challenge.

Me too.

A fantastic Mr. Fox says hello from Tuesday Feb. 2, 2010.

ok, folks, looks like DVC is running a Challenge in early or mid March - I don't like to compete with them, so our sign-up thread will appear as soon as theirs closes...so keep an eye on what they're up to, and you'll know what we're doing.

better yet, go sign up when Lorinda puts up their thread!

Trond Saetre
February 5th, 2010, 03:40 AM
Wait until late March/early April... that's a long time.
ummm, we could always have a super quick late-February challenge ;)

Ryan Farnes
February 5th, 2010, 02:02 PM
Trond, I thought that too. Then I realized that I think Meryem is waiting for the signup thread to close for the DV Challenge thing that "ends in March." They're signing up right now, and once they're done signing up, then she'll post I believe.

I think she totally intends to put something up in the next week or two here.

Trond Saetre
February 5th, 2010, 03:25 PM
Well, that sounds good. Hope you're right.
I can survive waiting a few weeks.

Not quite.

Some are showing interest in one in March or so but it's only tentative at this time. The actual "signup" will be announced when the dates are confirmed.

Trond Saetre
February 6th, 2010, 02:40 PM
Yes, that's what I thought too.
Well, while waiting for the uwol to begin, I guess I'll just make some other videos instead.
Can't just sit here without doing anything. :)

Ryan Farnes

Oh, I see.

Trond Saetre
February 7th, 2010, 02:00 PM
With the Olympics ready to roll in Dylan's home town we might not be setting a date for a while yet, but stay tuned...it will happen! :)
Looks like we will have to wait a while if next UWOL will be after the DVC.

Good evening,

I do not think we are competitive to the dv challenge, we are actually different. I do not really think we should postpone for that reason. Most people do not participate in the dv challenge because most of what we do is different, often times totally on our own in the middle of nowhere.

If anyone likes they are encouraged to participate in both.

And they make fun of us for shooting rocks! :)

Trond Saetre
February 8th, 2010, 09:08 AM
Kevin, that's because it takes a true UWOL'er to see the real beautiness in the rocks :)

Let's hurry up and have a quick uwol 16 before the dvc gang has made up their mind if they will have a new contest or not.
(No problem in them having their challenge after ours)

Meryem, the rocks are out there waiting for us to shoot them. Let's go for it.

I won a UWOL once, and my entry was 100% about rocks. Nice shaped ones, and some with lichen.

Boy am I a proud, dyed-in the wool, hardcore UWOL-er!

Dale Guthormsen
February 8th, 2010, 05:25 PM
I am ready,

I will need to dig through the snow to find those rocks. I know they are down there somewhere.

No one even noticed that in the dv/uwol I had placed a few rocks down in the corner of the manger.

Bigger must be better.

Hey Geir, is that animal a 'Stoat/Ermine' ?

It's one of four pinemartens I filmed last summer, and as you can see:
Standing on solid rock :)

Meryem Ersoz

calm down, people...we'll be getting one of these up and running soon, just give us a chance to sort it out. ROCKS will not be the theme...

ROCKS will not be the theme...
How about Stones?

Mick Jenner
February 10th, 2010, 02:19 AM
Not rocks or even stones what about Boulders then in honour of Meryem

Mike Beckett
February 10th, 2010, 02:38 AM
Get stoned with UWOL!

Sheesh. And I had a pile of pebbles all ready to star in my next production.

Trond Saetre
February 10th, 2010, 11:47 AM
No more rocks? Hmm, I wonder if my last rock was too big. :)

Dale Guthormsen
February 11th, 2010, 04:18 PM
Definitely not boulders,

I only have one in about 220 sqaure miles around here, and then I do not think I could actually get to it due to the snow!!

How about some real suggesdtions for themes!!!

for a change, why not give a title to be fulfilled instead of a theme.

example: "This old Tree"
"Never ending story"
"Mysterium"
"Invasive species"
"Death of a season"
"Modern day ruins"
"As time Passes By"

Lets here some!!

That's a pretty good suggestion, Dale!
Would be cool to try something different than what we use to.

As I see it we already have 13 people on the list ready to go, no doubt some others would sign on.

I have cabin fever so bad I am going out on a drive to day to do some drive by shootings, hd of course.

I have some new toys I built, that I am just iching to try out, so being forced to go out and use them, is just what I need to get off my butt.

Ryan Farnes

Looking forward to it.

Mike Beckett

I've got my new Hoodman Hoodloupe EX1-R kit (on my Sony V1!) and new blimp ready to go. So I'll be able to see what I'm shooting now, and I won't have a wind problem. Not from the microphone anyway...

Always nice to have some new toys for a UWOL challenge! I will while away the days by re-organising my camera backpack to see if I can trim off some weight.

Mike Sims
February 15th, 2010, 10:54 AM
I'm with Sam and Mike. I've got some new tools and a Challenge would be a great time to learn to use them. Unfortunately, I also have jury duty at the end of the month.

Meryem Ersoz
February 17th, 2010, 12:21 AM
Sorry to break it to you all, but I'm not going to be able to run a Challenge this month after all. I'll be on a raft on the Grand Canyon for most of March, and the expected arrival time to begin the trip is a week sooner than I originally expected. There won't be time to execute a Challenge before I'm due at the put-in early next month....

Apologies -

but, as I always say, you don't need the contest to get out there and make your movies. Pick a theme, grab your camera, and get to work!

Trond Saetre
February 17th, 2010, 12:58 AM
Have fun rafting, Meryem!
Keep the camera running :)

And to all of us, let's go out and shoot something.
Some of Dale's suggestions could be fun to try.

Kevin Railsback
February 17th, 2010, 06:11 AM
Why don't we organize our own kind of informal theme and do a challenge?
People could throw some theme ideas in a hat, maybe we take the top five or something and we can go out and do a film based on one of the top five theme?

I think we can do polls here so maybe we throw some ideas around and get something going.

Trond Saetre
February 17th, 2010, 07:30 AM
That's a great idea Kevin!
Dale has already given some theme suggestions.

How about we use some of these? Say we vote for the "top 3", and then each of us can choose which of these 3 "winner themes" we will use for our video?

Of course, if any others also have theme suggestions we can include in the voting, post them.

Mike Sims
February 17th, 2010, 07:48 AM
The UWOL DIY Challenge. I like it too. My suggestion for theme is "Behind the scenes"- one minute showing any footage you want and two minutes showing you getting that footage and discussing setting up the shot, etc.

Bob Thieda
February 17th, 2010, 08:05 AM
OK...this is good! Count me in...

Trond Saetre
February 17th, 2010, 08:54 AM
So far we have these 7 theme suggestions:

This old Tree"
"Never ending story"
"Mysterium"
"Invasive species"
"Death of a season"
"Modern day ruins"
"As time Passes By"
"Behind the scenes"

How about we make a poll, voting for either one, or the "top 3" of these?

If we make it quick, we could have this up and running by Friday, giving people this weekend also to shoot. Then I suggest the deadline to be Sunday March 14, midnight everywhere, which gives us 3 weeks.

EDIT:
Anyone know if the "make poll" option is gone? I don't see that poll checkbox the FAQ refers to:
