Hello everyone, currently I'm writing my first indie film and plan on shooting in the summer. Can someone recommend a decent boom mic that I can attach to my HMC150. I don't have a huge budget so anything on the cheap side with decent audio will work!!
thanks

I love the Røde NTG-1. I have one on my DVC30 and have used it on a boom as well. It's an awesome mic for the money.

What kind of money are you wanting to spend?

Any mic attached to the camera is going to deliver profoundly inferior results, as compared to getting the mic off the camera and up on a boom pole.
The #1 most-important thing for good dialogue recording is to get the mic as close as you possibly can to the source of the sound. I'd much rather have a $150 Azden on a boom, than a $1,000 Sennheiser 416 mounted on the camera.
The only time mounting a mic on the camera is acceptable would be for something like news shooting.

i second the Rode NTG-1. it's form factor is perfect for the 150, and it runs on
phantom power.

For a reasonably decent low cost mic, I really like the Azden SGM-2X. It's basically like getting 2 mics in one (an omni and a shotty - interchangeable barrels). You sure couldn't buy 2 better mics separately for less.

Last week I picked up the B&H boom kit with the Rode NTG-3. Seriously, the mic is amazing and if you hurry you can get the blimp for a buck! I also ended up getting the Sound Devices MM-1 preamp which allows headphone monitoring at the mic and I will be able to plug it into my wireless rig for real freedom!
That said, Rode makes good stuff and I'm sure the NTG-1 or 2 sound great as well!

I'm thinking of getting this Mic
MXL | FR-304 Professional Shotgun Microphone | FR-304 | B&H (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/581522-REG/MXL_FR_304_FR_304_Professional_Shotgun_Microphone.html#accessories)
and this boom
K-Tek | KE-69 Avalon Series Aluminum Boompole (Uncabled) | KE-69
And this cable
Audio-Technica | 3-pin XLR Male to 3-pin XLR Female | AT8314-20 (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/68098-REG/Audio_Technica_AT8314_20_3_pin_XLR_Male_to.html#accessories)
Do you guys know what wind shield I could use? FYI, I've never used a boom mic before so this is all new to me. What do you guys think of this set up for my HMC150?
