View Full Version : iPhone DoF calculator, anyone? Scott Brickert December 22nd, 2009, 09:17 PM I'm looking at buying an iPhone DoF app, and wondered if anyone is using one currently, and what would be on their pros/cons/experiences list... Keith Moreau December 23rd, 2009, 01:22 AM I think the one called DOF is pretty good, it has a bunch of presets and you can easily switch between 2 cameras / sensor sizes. It tells you DOF in front, behind, the hyperfocal distance, circle of confusion, etc. So for me I have one programmed for my EX1, and one for my 7D so I can quickly compare them. I think it was a couple of dollars, a steal for a great tool. Liam Hall December 23rd, 2009, 04:25 AM PhotoCalc and iSee4k are both excellent. Michael Kowalczyk December 26th, 2009, 12:47 PM There is an app available called pCAM, and its just about as extensive as it gets. It's widely used through out the film industry by working professionals and assists with a ton of different areas relating to focus and focal lengths with cameras. It's pricier than most apps, but well worth it. Michael Nistler December 27th, 2009, 02:06 AM Yes, while pCAM is $40, it's filled with lots of useful associated apps besides simple DOF. See: pCAM for iPhone (http://www.davideubank.com/Good_Focus/pCAM_for_iPhone.html) Other useful programs are: Movie*Slate (I like it better than Slate) PureBlend Software :: Movie★Slate (http://www.pureblendsoftware.com/movieslate) ReelDirector (editing iPhone video): iPhone Apps from nexvio | ReelDirector (http://nexvio.com/product/ReelDirector.aspx) Regards, Michael Liam Hall December 27th, 2009, 06:17 AM Also, there's FilmCalc which looks very cool, you can download a free trial from here: Download FilmCalc (iPhone) (http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia-Graphics/Utilities/FilmCalc-iPhone-83539.shtml) Ian Stark March 25th, 2010, 04:14 PM Yes, while pCAM is $40, it's filled with lots of useful associated apps besides simple DOF. See: pCAM for iPhone (http://www.davideubank.com/Good_Focus/pCAM_for_iPhone.html) On sale for $29.99 at the moment. Scott Brickert March 25th, 2010, 04:29 PM I paid the full forty, and consider it worth every cent. It's a real education for a DIY Filmschool of Hard Knocks guy like me. Just bought Storyboard Composer and looking forward to using it soon. Phil Hanna March 25th, 2010, 04:44 PM The camera DOF apps are pretty good. Pcam is very good and Photocalc is not as powerful but a good value. Phil Hanna |
