Seriously, if you got 2 cameras that look almost exactly alike, you know they might have some of the same technology. The Optura XI has a RGB filter, what about the HC1? If it doesn't have one, it should.

I read the camcorderinfo review and it mentions that the camera is capable of analogue to digital passthrough in DV mode not in HDV mode.... but on sony's web site it mentions nothing about possible analogue input (video or S-video in).... how can that be done?
Another question is when I capture HDV format video from the camcorder to computer for editing what video format shall I be using... AVI or MPEG?

Does anybody know what shooting modes the A1U will have? I was hoping that since it is considered a pro product that it will also allow CF24, CF25, CF30, 50i and 60i just like with the Z1.

Slik EZ pod
http://www.adorama.com/SLEZP.html?s...ezpod&item_no=4
Benefits important to me:
it weighs less than 1 lb
18.5" folded
has a quick release plate
it costs less than $50

I also checked out the varizoom but i'm not sure how it works or what it adds for the extra price.

it weighs 2 lbs
20" folded
has a quick release plate
it costs $90

Which one would you use for traveling with a Sony HC1 camcorder?

anything better out there that I'm missing?

Thank you

if someone knew what they were doing with lighting, couldn't the higher dynamic range of these CMOS cameras capture a 'better' image? (highlights wouldn't get all blown out, etc.)

You have to be registered to read it, but it's a free process:

How do the Sony PD10 and HDR-HC1 / HVR-A1 compare in regards to low light sensitivity. The new cameras with their single 1/3" CCD should do better theoretically, but is that really the case?

I have found this link that gets progressive footage from Sony camcorders using the real time display of memory stills mode through AV and firewire, the question is can it be done with the HC1 or A1.

If anybody's interested, I'll see you there.

Is it possible to use a shoe mount, lanc controlled flash for still pictures on the A1? If so, is there a particular model that someone recommends? In an ideal world it would also have a 10 to 20 spotlight.

With the A1 (or Z1 for that matter) can "black stretch" be left on all the time? It seems to me like it can, like it only kicks in if it's needed, and won't affect well lit shots at all, or if it did, would be a mostly positive brightening of the shaddows.

If end goal is HDV 1280x720, should I use Cineframe 30? It seems to me like it might work out quite well in practical terms. All I'd lose is the ability to use slow motion effects.

Hello,

Ive heard about motion artifacts with the Hc1, yet haven't seen any examples of it with my own eyes, is it that bad to the point of going with a Fx1 or back to SD? The small size and price of the Hc-1 sounds great, but is it too good to be true?
I will be working on skate videos and just personal travel fun.

Any ideas or examples of the Hc1 with fast movements?

Thanks

Ok, it appears that I've set this correctly in the menu but I can't get it to work. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Or have I set it up improperly? I'm trying to get free run time code running so I could attempt use the footage in a multi camera setup. Help.

Had anybody heard of a converter between Sonys Active Interface Shoe and the normal accessory shoe?

Any power (battery) experts out there. The A1U is good on power around 6W. Yet the specs for the AC adaptor claims it consumes (18 Watts), why so many watts? Is this the amount of watts consumed while charging the internal battery? Can I asume that if the battery is fully charged the power consumption of the AC adaptor will be 6W not 18W. I am planning on running the camera VIA a Solar panel and a 12V 7Ah battery.

Any help or advise would be great.....

Thank you very much....

I just shot a bunch of HDV stuff in Japan. I'm wanting to import all the video into FCP 5 now but am unsure on how to do this. Can anyone help?

I'd like to:

1. Downconvert the HDV video into DV format into FCP and edit as regular DV initially to make some DVD's.

2. Import HDV video eventually and edit as HDV.

I'm assuming there is no recordable media at this time for HDV. Of course I did see Blueray recorders available in Japan.

What do I need to set on my camera to downconvert? From reading the manual, the VCR HDV/DV is set to AUTO and the iLINK CONV is set to OFF. And I'm importing via Firewire into FCP 5. Is this the proper setup? Do I need to set anything in FCP? How does the camera determine if I want to downconvert or use HDV? Can someone please explain this to me? Thanks!

Hello,

Recently, I had to dub some footage (DV & DVCAM -> component out) direct to a VHS tape. This was for a director to see his rushes and to work on a paper edit of the docu he is making. He needed a timecode present on the tapes. I discovered that in a playback mode on A1 I had visible on the LCD monitor (and subsequently on a VHS tape) not only the running TC, but also buttons, battery time left, and so on.

I was wondering if there is any chance of outputting nothing but the timecode?
