View Full Version : The reflective 'barn doors' in the FX1 hood

Has anyone thought like me that the little flappy barn doors (the switchable lens cap) built into the FX1's hood are too glossy? Seems to me that the sun's rays fall neatly on that glossy black surface and are then reflected perfectly onto the Zeiss front element.

They need to be absolutely flat, dead, matt black. Anyone modified theirs yet?

doesnt seem better or worse than the VX2K1 lenshood using similar construction , although I do believe that stupid piece of flat glass 8mm behind the filter plane is not broadband coated also it doesnt seem removeable unlike the VX. Under certain conditions I am getting reflection in the blue channel only (not green, not red, just blue!)

look inside the circle - no its not motion blur

I agree, the VX2k1 is a worse lens hood than that supplied for the VX2k simply because the designers wanted the lens cap included. Anyone who's tried to fit the lens cap to a DVX100 will love the Sony-with-barn-doors, but I think it's a pity that the shadowed hood idea has been diluted.

Not sure what you mean about "that stupid piece of flat glass 8mm behind the filter plane" John - can you explain further?

Tom,

its the first piece of glass you see, Sony refers to it as a 'glass ornamental'
