I just got the upgraded version of the HM700 with MPEG4 support. I have both the JVC and the SONY software for exporting clips from the camera to my PC.

However - I thought there were a way to just copy the actual clips from the card to a folder on the PC, so that I could click on all the clips at once and import them in Premiere.

But until now I haven't found out how - or if it's possible at all. Instead I end up with folder upon folder on the PC, with 1 MPEG4 clip in each plus the extra aux files in the folder.

Anyone found a way to transfer the clips from each folder to one folder on the PC???

I'm sure you have Premiere 3.2, as you'll need this to be able to acquire the XDCAM EX codec support. Outside of that, you may have to go to the Premiere group for your answer. I was given a demo of CS4 that moved the XDCAM EX .mp4 files around like .mov in FCP - very impressive.

A point of clarification: .mp4, the file extension of XDCAM EX, is not MPEG4. It's been misprinted in a number of articles, which makes me wonder about how well the writers understand what they're writing...

.mp4 is a container for the videodata and contains MPEG2,
on the other hand the same for the mac users
with .mov

Many people thought they got MP4/H.264,
but it is only MPEG2 on the XDCAM EX-codec.

Eh, just drag the primary folder (That holds all your little folders,each containing a clip)
into Premiere, it will import the entire folder,
You may get a message saying something bout some files were not able to be imported. no worries, those are just the metadata,ect files, the footages will be just fine.

Glad you got it all sorted Peter.

It took me a bit of a rough start when I first got the cam, and the software that comes with it is not so hot at all..so I ditched that right off. Once I figured out the drop the whole batch in at one go, it was great!

If you want to do a quick review without starting up all the engines, try VLC player (The one that looks like a traffic warning cone) it works a charm on the mp4 files to watch. ( Edit)..the cool thing too with VLC, is you don't even have to open the folder, or even the sub folders to watch..just right click the main folder, and choose the "add to VLC play list" and then you can watch them all at one go, or however you like, using the playlist option,, its quite handy!
