Here is a very interesting video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JM9G54kkn_Y) describing parallax scanning, which produces an almost 3D image on a 2D plane by moving the iris within the lens.

Simon Woodgate November 10th, 2009, 08:25 PM I couldn't see any 3D effect from this, yet the guy was claiming it would work on any TV??? Adam Stanislav November 11th, 2009, 12:20 AM That's what he said. Simon Woodgate November 11th, 2009, 08:38 AM I went into this really hoping to find a new exciting development in 3D. I may be totally missing the point but... I went their site to view the 'amazing' demo footage. Doesn't seem to be 3D in any way at all. Just looks like a shallow depth of field image where the background has a distracting wobble. Like a new version of jellycam but added deliberately! I can't imagine what you would want this effect for, and believe me, I'm a nutter for anything 3D. Am I completely off base? anyone getting a 3D image from this? If it was nearer April I'd have thought I was getting rickrolled but the site looks real. It's certainly not as good as just using depth of field and selective focus. That sample clip looks like a badly-tracked green screen composite - very unnatural. It is not true 3D, just an illusion of depth. It actually seems quite distracting since the eye is spending too much time looking at the background. |
