I am looking for a good point/shoot camera- mostly for stills, but I would also like to have a video capability (mostly home movies, but also as a back up). Looked at some picture and video samples, but I wanted to see how video stacks up against other cameras? I am shooting on HVX200, HM100, so 720/24p should match well. Any first hand experiences appreciated.

I have a TZ5 (TZ15) which has 720p30. It's pretty useless for videos because there is no AE lock and it jumps all over the place. Other than that, It produces usable video for SD. If the LX3 has an AE lock then it might be ok.

TZ5 is completely different camera from LX-3, and doesn't produce as good of the stills as LX-3. When I looked at some samples on line they stacked up pretty well against some DSLR's. I just wanted to see if there are some motion judder issues with 720/24p. I know it doesn't have zoom function with video, but I also wanted to see if it would intercut (very short bits) with HVX200 and HM100?

I know they are comletely different cameras. But they use the same codec, and the codec is going to be your main worry.

It's a CCD so you won't have to worry about 'motion judder issues' that you have with CMOS. Unless you are talking about stabilisation... which shouldn't be too much of a problem at 24mm (35mm equivelant).

There is a guy who just shot a movie with the LX3. Have look, you can judge by yourself.

Thanks! It's hard to judge well after the compression, but it looked OK to me.

I got the Zs3 and it's a great camera.. audio is fantastic ... 720 60P is a bit miss leading and gives problems in editors, avchd lite... Very nice camera though..

I just received my LX-3 last night. I only was able to shoot with indoor lighting, but I was blown away with the video quality. I think in low light it's almost better then HM100! Too bad it doesn't have an external microphone jack, but for some pick up shots the quality is amazing. Not to mention quality of stills! Easy to edit (unlike AVCHD Light), best bang for a buck hands down!
